Design Manchester 2017, 11–22 October 2017, from £0.00 - Book now

Design Manchester is back. The citywide festival of creativity and design returns for its fifth outing, this year comprising over 50 events and running from 11-22 October at venues all across the city.

There’s no question that Manchester has always been a city of design and innovation – from the industrial revolution and the birth of the cooperative movement, to the reinvention of the city centre in the 1990s and the explosion of graphene products today. Taking its lead from the changes that 2017 has brought – from the city’s move towards devolution, along with continued uncertainty in the economic climate and surrounding international trade and free movement – DM17 acknowledges the challenges faced by creative industries and looks to tackle them head-on with a festival full of opportunity and activity. Celebrating the contemporary by nodding to both the past and looking to the future, the line-up is packed with engaging events that showcase local and global talent, ask stimulating questions and create opportunities for design solutions, enterprise and play.

Exploring hot topics through exhibitions, film screenings, talks, workshops, parties and discussions, there are a wide range of free and ticketed events and experiences on offer at venues across the city. From a very special Buzzcocks hometown show, to the ever-lively Great Debate, a Frankenstein double-bill and stop-motion animation workshops for budding young creatives, there’s something for all ages and interests. This year, DM17 will also include the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, with over 150 exhibitors gathering under the roof of Upper Campfield Market with stalls, demonstrations and artist talks. The following weekend sees the return of Design City Weekender, back and bigger than ever with workshops, street food and live music and incorporating the ever-popular Manchester Print Fair. In a city that thrives and succeeds because of its creativity, diversity and unique character, DM17 is a celebration not to be missed.

Various prices. Some events are free.
