Manchester Central Convention Centre

Susie Stubbs

Manchester Central Convention Centre is the city’s main conferences and events centre, housed in the former Manchester Central railway station. The Grade II-listed building opened in 1880 and at its peak saw around 400 arrivals and departures every day (in 1959, the place recorded over one million passengers). It closed in 1969 and re-opened as the G-MEX centre in 1986. It was given a £30m scrub-up in 2008 and is now the city’s best-known conference centre, hosting everything from political conferences to international sports conventions.
