The Staymor in the City is a small, particular bed-and-breakfast where everything is made with a personal touch. Set not too far outside the city walls (about ten to fifteen minutes from the centre) the Staymor makes a great base for your York adventure, perhaps especially suited to young couples on a romantic city break or anniversary treat, though family/triple rooms are of course available, all with en suite. This is a cosier experience than you’ll get from a large hotel.

Stylish contemporary wallpapers and art pieces adorn each room of the charming Victorian building, with an emphasis on the welcoming and cosy. All the rooms come with internet access and Wi-Fi but it’s fair to say you won’t be using the internet much on your visit to York considering all it has to offer.

Of particular note is the breakfast part of bed-and-breakfast. Available in standard, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free, all the food is locally sourced and fresh – eggs from local farmer Ian Taylor, orange juice made on the day, coffee ground just before serving, and local Mercer’s jam.

Reviews online are uniformly positive, with many guests noting the short but pleasant walk to the centre, as well as nearby shops, and the hands-off but friendly staff.

In fact, the location of The Staymor in the City puts the visitor close to the beautiful Rowntree Park, a landscaped green area with playgrounds and sports courts; over the Millennium Bridge you’ll find the Two Hoots Ice Cream Boat and the Danesmead Wood. Or head up north to the Skeldergate Bridge, and you’ll find yourself in the city centre, close to the Jorvik Viking exhibit.
