We are so lucky in the North to have a wealth of breweries. From the bedroom startups to the indie micros and the success stories of those who’ve transitioned into the mainstream pub industry while maintaining their passion for experimentation and top quality beer. One such story is of Northern Monk, a Leeds based brewery whose beers can be found in independent bottle shops and pubs across the country. You can join them on Saturday afternoons for a peek behind the scenes and an insight into the brewing process with their brewery tours.

Based at the original brewery site at the Old Flax Store, you’ll be guided by an expert through their specific brewing methods, with a focus on some of Northern Monk’s much loved core range of beers. You’ll also discover how the brewery started, developed and where they’re heading towards in the future. As part of the tour you’ll have the chance to try three different beers. For someone new to the brewery’s bold flavours and easy drinking feel, the tours are a great introduction to why they’ve become such a brewing success story.

Lasting around 45 minutes, the tour will put you in prime position to sample the other taps in Northern Monk’s refectory. Housed in a beautiful grade II listed mill in the Holbeck area of Leeds, the refectory is a 10-minute walk from Leeds station and is surrounded by equally unique industrial era buildings. It’s a great alternative location for a Saturday sesh in Leeds, if you aren’t in the mood for the crowds and loudness of the heart of the city. Manchester locals can also try Northern Monk’s drinkable delights in their Manchester tap room, located on Tariff Street in the Northern Quarter.

Tours take place most Saturdays and start at 13:30, and it’s a great way to kick off a weekend away in Leeds. Booking is required, and this can be done via the Northern Monk website, accessible via the button below.
