Raymond Briggs’ classic story The Snowman is one we all know and love, sweeping children and adults alike across oceans and seas to a magical winter wonderland. On 21 and 22 December, The Snowman returns to The Bridgewater Hall, in a large-scale screening conducted by Olivia Clarke and accompanied live by the full forces of the Hallé orchestra playing Howard Blake’s famous score, with a chorister performing Walking in the Air.

The production begins with a live-screening of Mimi and the Mountain Dragon, taking the audience on a thrilling journey across icy peaks and dangerous paths, as the brave Mimi tries to reunite a baby dragon with its mother. This heartwarming story is brought to life on the Hallé’s big screen, with the ethereal voices of the Hallé Choir and Hallé Youth Training Choir adding to the magic.

This is followed by the main event, as the snow-dusted world of The Snowman takes centre stage and Howard Blake’s beautiful, timeless score fills The Bridgewater Hall with wonder. Expect a fantastic programme with two popular productions that are packed with friendship, new adventures and wintry magic. The Snowman at The Bridgewater Hall is one of the best introductions we can think of to live orchestral music for big and little kids alike, as well as being very fun and nostalgic for adults too.
