Exhibitions in the North

Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions Editor

As the leaves begin to change colour, galleries are gearing up for a new season of exhibitions with fresh, Autumn/ Winter programmes.

In Manchester, there’s one weekend left to see Joe O’Rourke’s collaged paintings at Paradise Works. While you’re there, pop into texture to see The Way In Is Not The Whole Way Through, a fascinating collection of artworks brought together by their ‘novelty’. In Stockport, Art Battle Mcr is back for its newest edition, with a back-to-school theme in a historic location. You can also book your tickets for the GNCCF, the biggest craft fair of the season.

In Leeds, Chris Eastham explores Northern identities in her solo show Northern Soul. Leeds Central Library celebrates the healing power of gardening and YSP presents Jordy Kerwick’s wild sculptures and paintings of otherworldly creatures.

In Liverpool, you’ll find the immersive installations of Helen Anna Flanagan and Gavin Gayagoy at FACT, while the Walker Art Gallery opens the iconic John Moores Painting Prize.

Don’t forget – at the end of September, the Turner Prize 2025 exhibition opens in Bradford’s Cartwright Hall, promising an exciting mix of works by shortlisted artists Nnena Kalu, Rene Matić, Mohammed Sami and Zadie Xa.
