With so many hotels in the centre of Liverpool, it can be hard to choose but a Premier Inn is always a safe bet. Located in a Grade I-listed building, here comfortable beds come as a guarantee, along with a tasty breakfast and, in this case, the perfect location. You’ll be staying in the Royal Albert Dock, close to the M&S Bank Arena, next door to the The Beatles Story, near all of the dockside restaurants and bars, and even a watersports centre.

You can choose from the Double, Twin, Family and Accessible rooms, some of which come with a view. In your room, you’ll find a kettle, tea and coffee, and free Wi-Fi comes as standard too. If you’re planning on working at the desk in your room, you might be looking out onto the Dock which doesn’t sound like a bad day at the office! Hotel guests also receive a discount for the Dock car park.

The hotel restaurant, The Thyme Bar and Grill, serves traditional full English breakfast, as well as vegetarian and vegan options alongside pastries, cereal and fruit. In the evening you’ll find some teatime classics: burgers, steak and pies with some indulgent desserts to finish.

The Royal Albert Dock looks pretty impressive at night so wrap up warm (it’s windy!) and take a stroll after dark. Looking for daytime activities? Liverpool ONE is just across the road for all of your shopping needs, and for sightseers  Three Graces (The Port of Liverpool Building, The Cunard Building and The Royal Liver Building) are a five minute walk away. If you’re going in that direction, there are always fascinating exhibitions on at the Open Eye photography gallery too, so don’t forget to pop in.

Music in the North

Manchester’s closing out the year – and looking to the new one – with a run of gigs from some of the country’s best underground exports.

Exhibitions in the North

This season, exhibitions across the North West feel attuned to the world beneath the world – the forces and stories shaping how we see, feel and imagine.

Winter brings a huge haul of seasonal shows, as well as productions that resolutely veer away from the fairy lights.

A performer in a bright red costume sits on a snowy stage set, holding a large snowball between their legs with a surprised expression. The colourful winter backdrop features snowflakes, hills, a snowman, and a traffic light with glowing lights.
Family things to do in the North
