In A Land Gallery
In a Land is a small but mighty gallery and studio space set inside a former textile mill in Hebden Bridge. Located down one of the town’s charming cobbled lanes, the venue is geared towards supporting local artists while combining exhibitions, showcases and workshops.
The gallery focuses on emerging and independent artists working across a wide range of disciplines. Photography, writing, mixed media and performance are all welcome, presented in exhibitions that feel intimate and accessible. It’s the sort of space where visitors can spend time with the work, chat with artists and discover something new.
It’s not just about the exhibitions. In a Land also runs a variety of workshops and creative sessions. Classes in life drawing, writing groups and small artist-led sessions are regular features in the calendar, offering visitors the chance to get involved with the art themselves rather than just observing the work on display.
The studio space acts as a practical creative hub, available to host small group sessions or artist gatherings. In a Land’s aim is to provide support for artists not just through exhibition opportunities but also via access to the tools they may need and a community they can express themselves through freely.
Did you think that was all? Nope. The venue is also home to Hebden Bridge’s Feminist Library. Holding a collection that explores themes of feminism, representation and class, this library offers people a quiet corner to reflect on the world and how we see ourselves within it.
As a non-profit organisation, In a Land has made deliberate choices to celebrate and reinforce independence, collaboration and shared creativity. In a town long associated with alternative culture and grassroots art, it feels exactly where it belongs.
