If you want classic Liverpool views of the river, this may be the hotel for you. Hilton Liverpool is built on the site of Old Customs House and is probably the most centrally located hotel in the city. It’s practically in Liverpool ONE, right next to Chavasse Park (the home of a number of chain and independent restaurants and the entrance to Odeon Cinema) and across the road from the Royal Albert Dock. If you want to explore other areas of Liverpool too, it’s just behind the bus station.

As you’d expect from a Hilton, the décor is tasteful but neutral, without crazy colours, artworks or themed rooms. There are large, comfortable beds, some lovely views and even pet-friendly rooms. There is an on-site restaurant too – the Pima bar serves food and drinks. Perhaps most enticingly on sunny days, there’s a large Al Fresco Summer Terrace so, even if you’re just having a weekend away an hour or so from home, you can feel like a bit like a tourist in an Italian piazza, sipping your Aperol spritz in the sun and watch the world go by.

Most tourist attractions are nearby: The Beatles Story is just across the road, foodie areas like Bold Street and Castle Street are short walk away and the same goes for the city’s favourite pubs and bars. Take a walk down the Waterfront and stop by Open Eye Gallery, an exhibition space dedicated to photography. The museums are a little further away but Liverpool city centre is pretty compact so they’re still within walking distance.
