The sister venue to the original Cask on Liverpool Road, Cask Ancoats is a very welcome addition to the area. Situated in one of the many, many new-builds in Ancoats and New Islington, Cask Ancoats doesn’t retain much of the original’s shabby chic, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Ancoats feels a bit like a pressure-washed edition of the Northern Quarter for your more aspirational hipster, this sleeker version of Cask fits in nicely.

This is a real beertopia

The Cask spirit is there though, with the presence of board games – it even has a Ghostbusters pinball machine – and, of course, with the all important selection of beers. And what a selection. Check out the website for the frequently updated drinks menu, but you’ll not be found wanting. From the hand-pulled casks to the many draughts via a fridge full of jazzy cans, this is a real beertopia.

Most pleasing is that Cask have brought their Liverpool Road menu of food with them too, it reads: ‘We sell a selection of crisps and nuts’. Like at the original bar, patrons are encouraged to bring their own food, or even call in a takeout.

The best place to get a pint in Ancoats? Unquestionably.
