Popular purveyors of pop-up cinema, The Village Screen invite you to the gloomy wooded grounds of Kenwood Hall Hotel for a pair of outdoor Halloween screenings that are sure to leave an impression. The woods will be spookily spruced for the occasion and there will be a live band performing quirky acoustic covers ahead of each screening. Of course, fancy dress is heavily encouraged and there’ll be a selection of street food vendors. The Village Screen bar will also be there if you need a little dutch courage out there in the dark.

Film-wise, first up is a half-term, family friendly screening of Nicolas Roeg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches. This seasonal favourite is still considered amongst the darkest of children’s movies, earning praise for the thin line it treads between high camp and stimulating horror. Later on, the adults can enjoy Jack Nicholson’s manic turn in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. A masterpiece of mounting terror, this Stephen King adaptation should play brilliantly to an enthusiastic audience on a crisp October night.
