Street Theatre and Family Arts at Underneath The Stars Festival 2018
Gemma Gibb, Associate EditorAs if world class music wasn’t enough, Underneath The Stars is a tip top place to experience the best new outdoor arts and street theatre touring the UK today. The line up this year will give you your fill of theatrical magic for months to come and is the perfect first introduction to live drama and dance for smaller festivalgoers in a relaxed environment where you don’t need to worry about sitting still.
Highlights include Travelling Light Circus’s thrilling Pendulum Wave Machine and the Playground of Illusions – a series of large scale spectacles that will play tricks with your eyes and ears. Don’t miss dance piece Here Comes Trouble by acclaimed Barnsley born performer and choreographer Keira Martin and dance comedy Painting Venice by Barnsley’s Earth Bound Theatre.
For hands-on action, learn the tin whistle, ukelele and join in communal drumming and singing workshops. Crafters will be in high heaven with wood-working, silversmithing, blacksmithing, peg loom and sheep fleece weaving, pottery and quilting workshops galore.
The smallest of festivalgoers can head to the Mini Big Top, Crafty Kids and Bonnie Bairns areas for creative capers, music and singing aplenty.
