Ossett Brewery sits in the heart of Yorkshire, just a train away from Leeds and nestled into the left side of Wakefield. It’s a great destination to head to for a day trip away from the city. You can now also get deeper into the heart of the brewery itself with an Ossett brewery tour.

Head behind the scenes of the brew house as you dive into the brewing process. In the tour, you’ll gain a better understanding of what each wondrous spaceship looking tank actually does. As well as the natural processes that the raw materials go through as part of beer making. You’ll also be led through a tutored tasting of a variety of beers. One of the expert brewers will show you how each flavour is crafted and how you can best appreciate them.

Ossett Brewery was founded by ex-Tetley brewer Bob Lawson in 1998. You’d struggle to find a better lineage for that well loved Yorkshire style of beer making than Tetley. Since opening in 1998 the brewery has grown to employ hundreds of staff, occupy new buildings and renovate old ones as well as working with smaller micro breweries in the region to evolve their different ranges.

If you’re in the area but not long enough for a tour, you can also visit the tap room for a chilled drink (or two). When the weather’s nice their outdoor area is a perfect suntrap to enjoy an afternoon in. There is also an onsite Brewery Store, where you’ll find their full range of beers on sale as well as some special one offs and a generous selection of merch.

In addition to the tours, Ossett Brewery also hosts Live @ Ossett music festival, a day of bands, beer and wholesome shenanigans. They also run a yearly Charity open day in aid of Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice. This event is a joyful day of food, live music, children’s activities and of course some cracking pints. Check out their website for more info.

Theatre in the North

Theatre across the North West splits between festive escape and sharp, urgent work exploring politics, power and resistance.

Exhibitions in the North

This season, exhibitions across the North West feel attuned to the world beneath the world – the forces and stories shaping how we see, feel and imagine.
