Wing Dash is a new delivery chicken wing brand from the brains behind lockdown success story Burgerism, whose premium burgers have no less than Mana‘s Simon Martin’s seal of approval. High praise indeed. But do these chicken wings also live up to such Michelin star-chef seal of approval? We take a trip to Trof in the Northern Quarter to try them out.

It’s instantly clear that these are a cut above the other chicken options available in the city. Served in eye-catching orange and royal blue packaging, it’s a cutting edge, modern take on the classic wing. They’re brined for 24 hours to keep the meat soft and succulent but cooked in a way that delivers that all-important crispy coating. But more importantly, everything is natural and high-quality – no flimsy wings here, these are plump and fresh, full of flavour.

And it’s the variety of flavours that shine. Of course, there are the classic BBQ and buffalo wings, but interestingly, these are the first in Manchester to offer lemon pepper or garlic parmesan seasoning. Two fantastic flavours, with a perfect balance of ingredients, no chemical additives – just powerful and delicious flavourings.

The cauliflower bites deserve a special mention. The cauliflower is sourced locally from a family-run farm in Preston, brined for an entire day and night before being chopped into bite-size chunks, expertly seasoned and served up with pickled red onion, spring onion and a fresh slice of lemon (as are the wings). They’re vegan-friendly naturally, but even if you’re a dyed-in-the-wool carnivore you should try these. Light and crunchy, they make a perfect match for the wings.

For now, these exceptional wings are available by delivery only

Even the chips are something special. Again, locally sourced from a Lancashire farm, these are prepared daily and dished out with a near-addictive shake of chicken salt. They’re that Holy Grail midpoint between old-school chippy chips and crispy fries, and utterly delicious.

After a successful launch at Trof, there’s talk of them being available in other venues in Manchester but for now, these exceptional wings are available by delivery only – check the website for links. Forget the big chain brands, these are chicken wings done right.
