This vegan restaurant is one of Liverpool‘s finest, whether you’re a vegan or not. In recent years, they’ve teamed up with a local favourite, woo tan scran (so the place is actually called Down the Hatch & Woo Tan Scran, although it’s a bit of a mouthful before you even sink your teeth into that tofu).

Down the Hatch seerves indulgent, delicious food, except somehow it doesn’t feel quite as greasy because there isn’t a beef burger in sight. Every single thing on the menu is 100% plant-based, including the drinks, so those of us who aren’t meat-eaters can finally have a place to eat that will make them feel a little dirty, in the best possible way.

Portions are generous to say the least, with favourites like burgers (you can even build your own), wraps, loaded fries, mac and cheese, and some sides and sauces to top it all off. More recently, you can also sample to wonders of Woo Tan Scran’s menu (“plant based chippy tea”) which is thankfully available once more, after closing down their takeaway shop on Lark Lane.

The restaurant itself is located in a basement as the name suggests, and pleasantly lit – nobody likes a big overhead light during a meal right? – with exposed brick walls and comfortable booths. Service is lovely and a lot of attention is paid to special dietary requirements. Dogs are welcome too! Come and stuff your face with all the plant-based deliciousness, there’s no judgment from us.
