Ah, Tabac – the Liverpool institution that’s had a home on Bold Street for over 40 years, providing wine and comfort to Liverpool’s artists and independent thinkers. Its claim to fame is that it was often frequented by Frankie Goes to Hollywood frontman Holly Johnson and actress Margi Clarke. It’s a cosy café bar that serves coffee, food and drinks – in fact, it’s the longest running café bar in the city and remains a firm favourite with locals and tourists.

If you’re coming for drinks and don’t mind a little caffeine, try the Cafe Tabac Espresso Martini. The cocktail menu offers a lot of choice – if you don’t have a go-to, take your time looking though to find just the right thing. There are many non-alcoholic drinks too, and, like any establishment catering to a bohemian audience, lots of wine.

Moving onto food, Tabac is best known for its breakfasts. It’s a traditional full English breakfast done to perfection. Other options include all the classics on toast, sandwiches, burgers and sides. It’s perfect for the days when you may have had a little bit too much to drink the day before and need to soak it all up with a hearty breakfast, which by the way, is served till 5pm.

In the middle of Tabac, you’ll find the backroom which is available for private hire. They hold weekly film screenings there too, showing cult classics in “Liverpool’s smallest cinema”.

Cafe Tabac is a Liverpool classic and should be on everyone’s list of places to visit in the city at least once. After that, there’s no doubt that you’ll be back soon.
