Bluecoat, Bluecoat Chambers, School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX – Visit Now
This is the oldest building in the city centre (the Bluecoat dates back to 1716). Once a school, it’s now one of the city’s liveliest arts hubs, an art gallery showing work by major national and international artists that also stages regular performances, readings and more. Clustered around its front courtyard are independent craft and design shops, including the excellent design and print store, Nook & Cranny, while at the back you’ll find the highly-rated Bluecoat Display Centre. Established in 1959, the Display Centre stocks a wide and changing range of contemporary craft, interior design and jewellery. The Bluecoat’s bistro and courtyard garden – a hidden gem behind the building – are particularly recommended.
Because of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, we are unable to bring you our usual recommendations for things to do in Manchester and the North. Our thoughts at this time are with our readers and with the organisations and businesses who make the North of England a great place to live and visit. We hope you stay well and look forward to sharing more unmissable events and places with you later in the year.
