Zog and The Flying Doctors at The Lowry
Shekina Rose, Families Editor
Are you ready for a roar-some adventure with your favourite dragon? On 28 and 29 May, families of the North are invited to experience the heart-warming journey of Zog and The Flying Doctors at The Lowry, in a production by Freckle Productions and Rose Theatre, based on the best-selling book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
Zog is an ambitious but clumsy dragon who wants to be the best student in school. It’s not easy for poor Zog, he gets a sore throat just by roaring, he often sets his own wings on fire when he breathes out flames, and he keeps bumping into trees and crashing when taking his flying lessons! After his latest crash, Zog is in need of some patching up, and the brave girl who comes to rescue him is no other than Princess Pearl, who, in fact, wants to be a doctor!
Together with Sir Gadabout, (who first came to rescue the princess from dragons), Princess Pearl and Zog are on a mission to help others, and they come across all sorts of creatures in distress: A lion with the flu, a unicorn with too many horns and a sunburned mermaid!
Unfortunately, Princess Pearl’s uncle, no other than the King himself, believes that princesses should not be doctors, and he hatches a plan to lock her up and keep her in the castle, dressed up in a silly frilly dress and jewelled crown. But then, the King falls ill! It’s up to Pearl to make him better, and show him that princesses can be doctors too.
At the heart of this magical story are the themes of kindness, friendship and perseverance, and the message that you should follow your dreams, no matter what obstacles are in the way!
Suitable for ages 3+ but all ages welcome. Running time approx. 1 hour.
