Tate Liverpool takes the most basic of (building) materials and proves that there is more than one way to see the humble brick. Brickworks gathers works from the collection which in some way relate to the material, literally or conceptually. The show is located in the gallery’s temporary home of RIBA North while the Albert Dock space is undergoing a transformation.

Bringing together 21 artworks, Brickworks is a diverse display ranging from Philip Guston’s painting The Street (1970) to Sarah Lucas’ NUD CYCLADIC 6 (2010) – a sculpture that juxtaposes the clean lines of breezeblocks with more organic forms. Other artists include Kader Attia, Keith Arnatt and Saloua Raouda Choucair amongst others, featuring sculpture, photography and works on paper.

A programme of events runs alongside the exhibition, including a Meet the Artist event with an artist featured in the display, walking tours of Liverpool and curatorial talks.
