This Christmas, the 1947 heart-warming Christmas film, directed and written by George Seaton will be adapted for stage. With timeless festive songs and seasonal cheer, Miracle on 34th Street is set to cast its magical spell over First Street this December.

Directed by Sara Joyce and produced by HOME, Meredith Willson’s joyous production of the classic tale promises an enchanting musical – the ultimate theatrical gift for Manchester this Christmas.

A real Christmas classic, Miracle of 34th Street opens with one of New York’s most prolific department stores on the brink of collapse, with their only hope of survival being their upcoming Christmas sale. When the Santa they’ve hired quits at the last minute, they’re left with a kind bearded gentleman who is convinced he’s the real deal to save the day. However, when he is arrested, the fate of Christmas falls into the hands of six-year-old Susan who must restore the world’s belief in Santa Claus.

Of Miracle on 34th Street, director Sara Joyce told us, “Miracle on 34th Street is my favourite Christmas film so it’s an absolute privilege to be directing Meredith Wilson’s brilliant musical adaptation of the original movie at HOME. In our production, New York meets Manchester, tradition meets new ways of thinking, and nothing is more powerful than the belief of children. The extraordinary cast and team will bring magic and joy beyond the stage into the audience.”

A super-talented cast of ten, boasting strong links to the North, will bring the joyous story to life. Packed with festive spirit and seasonal songs like ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’, Miracle on 34th Street has all that you could ever want in a Christmas show.

Alongside a packed programme of festive cinema, captivating theatre and stunning visual arts, HOME have got the Christmas holiday season all wrapped up.
