A high-octane and vibrant new musical comedy dances into Manchester Opera House later this year. Come Fall in Love promises to be an east-meets-west theatrical extravaganza. Based on one of the biggest blockbuster films in the history of Indian cinema, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), this new musical charts a young woman’s last big adventure before her arranged marriage in India.

Directed by Aditya Chopra, director of the original record-breaking DDLJ Bollywood movie, this musical stage adaptation focuses on Simran, a young British Indian woman who finds her future set – an arranged marriage to a family friend in India. However, the plot begins to heat up when Simran, ahead of her arranged marriage, falls in love with Rog – a charming British boy and her father’s worst nightmare.

With an outstanding cast recently announced, Jena Pandya (Bhangra Nation, Mamma Mia) and Ashley Day (An American in Paris, Dynasty) will play the iconic lovers Simran and Rog.

The production also boasts a top-notch team of creatives – book and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, the co-writer of Legally Blonde and lyricist of Mean Girls; a lively score of 18 all-new songs by legendary Indian composers Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Raviiani (popularly known as Vishal – Shekhar in India); choreography by Olivier, Tony and Emmy Award-winning Rob Ashford (Frozen, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), and design by Tony Award-winning Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) – cultures are set to collide in this eagerly awaited UK premiere.

Robin Hawkes, Theatre Director at the Palace Theatre & Opera House, told us, “It is an honour for the Opera House to welcome its next premiere. Given that Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical is based on one of the biggest blockbuster films in the history of Indian cinema, I am sure it is set to resonate deeply with our audiences here in Manchester…I look forward to seeing the success this new musical has with our theatregoers before it takes the world by storm.”
