Christmas & New Year at Showroom Cinema at Showroom Workstation, City Centre 15 November — 25 December 2024 Tickets from £5.00 — Book now

There’s an abundance of festive treats on the menu at Showroom this December, as the Sheffield cinema invites audiences to warm themselves in front of the big screen.

This year there’s a real emphasis on family classics, starting with special screenings of iconic 1982 animation The Snowman (7 – 8 Dec) accompanied by a live score from Unite the Brass Band. That’s joined by beloved Charles Dickens’ adaptation The Muppet Christmas Carol (20 – 24 Dec), and Robert Zemeckis’ The Polar Express (Sat 14 Dec) which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Excitingly, Showroom are gearing up for the release of the new Wallace and Gromit film on television with two big screen double bills. Audiences can catch the legendary Aardman Animations duo appearing in A Grand Day Out and The Wrong Trousers on Sunday 15 December, before A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death the following Sunday 22 December.

The Film Girls Galore club brings women and girls together each month at Showroom to discuss film and forge friendships, and this month they’re going with a festive showing of The Grinch (Sat 14 Dec) starring Jim Carrey, followed by a communal crafts session. While on Tuesday 17 December, there’s more opportunity to get involved as Emma Maezin hosts a cocktail-fueled edition of Drag Bingo that promises puns and prizes until late in the venue’s café bar.

whether you’re popping into the café for some festive food, meeting a friend for a seasonal tipple, or gathering the family for an animated classic, Showroom are bringing the Christmas vibes this year

There are classics in the form of Jimmy Stewart in Frank Capra’s lovely It’s a Wonderful Life and Bruce Willis in John McTiernan’s explosive Die Hard, both of which get extended runs from 20 – 24 December. They’re joined by last year’s The Holdovers from director Alexander Payne. Set at a New England prep school where a group of students have been left behind for Christmas under the stewardship of Paul Giamatti’s professor and Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s school cook, this tender drama has future Christmas classic written all over it.

Other yuletide enticements at Showroom this season include a chance to see the Royal Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker (17 & 24 Dec) and the National Gallery’s Exhibition on Screen: Van Gogh – Poets & Lovers (10 – 29 Dec). But, whether you’re popping into the café for some festive food, meeting a friend for a seasonal tipple, or gathering the family for an animated classic, Showroom are bringing the Christmas vibes this year.
