Organised every five years, The British Art Show is a major touring exhibition, surveying the most exciting contemporary artists working in the UK at the moment. It’s ninth edition (BAS9) is curated by Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar.

The exhibition comes at a crucial point in Britain’s history, with questions of identity and injustice, political turmoil and hope for the future all taking centre stage, and it’s sure to take audiences on a fascinating journey through the country’s prominent, creative minds.

British Art Show 9 began in Aberdeen in October 2021 and is continuing its tour via Wolverhampton, Manchester and Plymouth. In Manchester, exhibitions will take place between 13th May – 4th September 2022 at: Castlefield Gallery; HOME; Manchester Art Gallery; and The Whitworth. The 47 artists participating in the show have been chosen following an extensive process of research and discovery around the country, and many will be producing brand new work especially for BAS9.
