Introduction to Sustainable Producing is a workshop exploring just some of the ways we can make theatre work as green as it can be. Alongside HOME, the indefatigable Josie Dale-Jones of ThisEgg and co-director of Staging Change will be opening our minds to some of the small changes theatre makers can implement, from encouraging a climate aware culture in rehearsal rooms to persuading venues to cut down on their use of plastics.

The producing of a show can reflect the ethos of the people making the show

In the workshop you will be finding creative ways of producing shows in a way that it can have the biggest impact it can, with the smallest footprint. From the moment the idea wants to become a thing, to when it meets the audience, and when it’s all ‘over’, you will discuss the ins and outs of what it means to produce a show in the context of the climate crisis. The producing of a show can reflect the ethos of the people making the show and in a climate aware world it’s no longer acceptable to be complacent abut the impact your work is having.

Staging Change is a grassroots artist-led organisation which supports theatre makers responding to the climate crisis and encourages sustainable producing. As storytellers, they have a unique capacity to explore key issues with audiences both on and off the stage.
