We may be slowly returning to civilisation – beer gardens, staycations, festivals, and whatnot. But over in South Yorkshire, 5 on the Farm Festival is taking things ‘off grid’ and inviting families to experience a celebration of rural and outdoor life on the sprawling Cannon Hall Farm estate.

Billed as the “perfect British day out and dog-friendly weekend” this three-day 10,000 capacity outdoor event manages to combine all the best family friendly activities into one fabulous festival.

The array of familiar faces ranges from the fictional (Peppa Pig and PAW Patrol), to intrepid adventurer Ben Fogle (of New Lives in the Wild), the ‘Dogfather’ Graeme Hall of Dogs Behaving Very Badly, TV farming expert Adam Henson and Our Yorkshire farms Amanda Owen, stars of Our Yorkshire Vet, Julian Norton, and Peter Wright. This results in a diverse programme of hands-on activities with everything from live Q&As and performances at the Main Arena, to floristry, pottery, woodwork, arts and crafts, cooking, yoga, bee keeping, baking and countryside skills workshops and demonstrations.

Younger visitors are sure to leave star struck after meeting their favourite presenters and characters in the Milkshake! Meadow. Guests include: Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol, the Milkshake! Monkey, and last but not least, the biggest star in the cartoon world… Peppa Pig!

And over in The Barn, children can learn about the residents of Cannon Hall Farm with the Yorkshire Vets. From there, naturally, it’s best to head into the farm itself (entry is included in the festival ticket price) to meet stars of the show like Jon Bon Pony and Audrey the Alpaca.

Billed as the “perfect British day out and dog-friendly weekend” this three-day 10,000 capacity outdoor event manages to combine all the best family friendly activities into one fabulous festival.

There are great food and drink offerings available to ensure tummies big and small are adequately full – with a ‘Yorkshire Pub’ serving up beers from a local brewery (along with cups of Yorkshire tea) and a ‘Village Green’ food festival bursting with stalls stocked with tasty snacks for adults and kids alike.

Given the rural location, organisers have made sure to cater to non-drivers too with transport options including shuttle buses from Barnsley train station and a coach service operating from the nearby cities of Sheffield, Manchester, and Leeds.

Suitable for all ages, and with up-to-date covid security measures in place, 5 on the Farm Festival is sure to be a full-family hit. Now, all we need is the weather.

For visitors with access requirements, details around how to request support can be found on the festival’s website.
