Thoughtfully Café

Creative Tourist

Formerly known as Cow & Co, Thoughtfully Café is a slice of heaven in a row of spruced-up facades just minutes from the chainstore central of Liverpool ONE.

Outside, wooden tables and chairs sit on a street that may be only a stone’s throw from one of Europe’s biggest open air shopping complexes, but couldn’t feel more removed. Inside, blankets sit on the windowsill (for wrapping up on chilly days), while very good coffee, sandwiches and pastries are all on the menu.

Thoughtfully Cafe

On our last visit, on a cold Thursday, the place was packed – which speaks volumes about how much Liverpudlians appreciate their independent shops and cafes. Buy the mags, or just sit, chat and flick through them – both work here in this sociable little oasis.

Legend has it that Dickens got himself sworn in as a special constable for the night to gather material for The Uncommercial Traveller. Charles Dickens loved Liverpool, and Liverpool adored him. On the wall of The Bridewell is a plaque which celebrates Dickens’ life as a journalist, novelist and for his one day as a Liverpool police constable.

Liverpool ONE avoided the fate of so many 1960s and 1970s large-scale shopping developments. Instead of obliterating what was already there, blocks of new-build sit alongside preserved and renovated existing buildings.
