We are all fans of a seasonal ice rink, however temporary rinks are often small and over crowded. Greater Manchester has long awaited a permanent rink, somewhere where skating can be enjoyed all year round without the Christmas crowds. Planet Ice is bringing such a venue to Altrincham, having been voted as Europe’s No.1 place for ice leisure, the joys of ice skating will no longer be a seasonal thing.

make that progression from a wobbly penguin to graceful glider

Every day there are public skate sessions, where you can make that progression from a wobbly penguin to graceful glider in your own time. If, however, you think you need a bit more guidance there are a wide range of classes available, ranging in abilities and ages. If you are particularly dedicated to skating it’s possible to sign up for a membership. Skating is a great way of getting some exercise with more chills and thrills than your normal gym.

In addition to the public skating sessions and lessons, Planet Ice is a great place to have a children’s birthday party. As part of the party the children will get an hour of skating with skate hire as well as a choice of food and drink and a birthday party host who’ll give everyone an introduction to skating.

Planet Ice is also the home of Manchester’s national ice hockey team, Manchester Storm. The team is currently getting ready to dive into the 2020/21 season with pre season matches happening over autumn.

If all that ice action makes you peckish, there is a cafe on site serving hot drinks and snacks. These homely treats are ideal to keep you warm whilst off the ice.
