Meraki

Creative Tourist
Meraki by Daniel de la Bastide

A former taxi garage, Meraki is one of Liverpool’s most exciting young venues, playing host to both wild club nights and cutting edge gigs.

Replacing the black cabs with a powerful sound system, the DIY-spirited heads behind Meraki took over this space in 2016, transforming the indoors into a 300-capacity, Berlin-style club and gig venue. The outdoor area they converted into a garden, complete with permanent roof covering and an oasis of plants (a pleasing injection of green into the heart of Liverpool‘s industrial North Docks). This garden space also hosts club night, holding up to 500 people.

Meraki Presents is the club’s in-house series of parties, which have hosted the likes of KiNK, Eliza Rose, Sherelle, Goldie, Moodymann, Antal, Leon Vynehall, Mala, Palms Trax, Saoirse and Shanti Celeste. It was only fairly recently that the venue started promoting and hosting a wealth of gigs, too — everything from post punk to hip hop to spoken word, all leaning a little towards the experimental.

It’s a great leftfield venue, and should be on your list to visit next time you’re in the area.
