Fairfield Social Club
Ian Jones, Food and Drink EditorFairfield Social Club finally launches this weekend, opening on Saturday, March 9th, with a blistering line-up of events covering love, laughs, and everything in between. It comes from the brains behind one of our favourite Manchester destinations, GRUB, and looks set to inject new life into this fast-growing area of the city that everyone’s calling the Green Quarter (mathematicians, please do not get in touch).
Before we dig into the lineup for the weekend and beyond, it’s worth taking a closer look at Fairfield Social Club, to see why everyone – including us – is so gosh-darned excited about it. It’s all part of the Victoria North regeneration scheme, the biggest urban regeneration scheme in Manchester’s history, and Fairfield Social Club is the jewel in the arts and culture crown.
And the lineup for March shows why they’ve been picked for the job. Take a deep breath:
Launch night (Saturday 9th March) sees two events as Girl Gang Mcr hosts their ever-popular “Speed Mate-ing” event in the afternoon before Josie Long joins Amy Gledhill, Lucy Pearman and more for an evening of stand-up comedy at A Lovely Time. Word on the street has it that the first 100 guests to arrive Saturday lunchtime will bag a free currywurst fresh off the BBQ and a can of smashing Blackjack beer to wash it down with. But be quick, only while stocks last.

Then, the following weekend, the wildly popular football quiz Best Team On Paper takes pride of place on Thursday, 14th March. Interested? There are mighty cash prizes to be won, plus special prizes from Squadra Vintage. Then, on Saturday 16th March, it’s “Super Saturday” AKA the final games of this year’s Six Nations. That’s right, a full day of rugger on the big screen in a friendly atmosphere. (Expect more of the same later this summer, for the Euros.)
St Patrick’s Day (Sunday 17th March) sees a quiz celebrating the world of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, with themed cocktails and all the trivia about Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Sweet Dee and Frank you could hope for. You can’t miss it, because of the implication…
On Saturday, 23rd March, Cultplex takes over, rebranded at CULTMART as they welcome traders from far and wide to set up shop and sell their wares to pop-culture-hungry shoppers. Sunday 31st March sees Fairfield Social Club celebrating Trans Day of Visibility with National Transgender Charity Sparkle fundraising for the Family & Youth Zone at Sparkle Weekend 2024. In collaboration with Manchester Queer Art Market, Sparkle will be hosting a great selection of trans & gender diverse stall holders at FSC. You can also expect jewellery making, eco clothes rail and binder programme, kids play zone, house plant 101, creative joy, embroidery, and, oh yes, an Easter Egg Hunt.
A Lovely Time, will be bringing tons more comedy to the venue throughout the year including a special weekend of new shows in June
April is packed to the rafters with comedy shows as big-name stand-ups Mike Rice, Nick Helm and New York-based TikTok sensation Ashley Gavin all bring their new tours to the space. Fairfield Social Club is also hosting Mike Wozniak, Henry Paker and Benjamin Partridge’s popular podcast Three Bean Salad, but both shows have already sold out. The in-house comedy boffins, A Lovely Time, will be bringing tons more comedy to the venue throughout the year including a special weekend of new shows in June called, you guessed it, A Lovely Weekend. More news as it comes in.
On Saturday, 20th April, there’s a huge all-day board game with the good folks at Dungeons and Flagons. It’ll be a fun, inclusive day for everyone from beginners to more seasoned gamers. Friday, 26th April sees Manchester institution Art Battle rock up for a special banquet, teaming up food and drink from some of GRUB’s favourite street food traders with their own brand of anarchic speed painting and innovative artwork.
Clearly, the calendar is filling up fast and with the GRUB team at the reins, it’s hard to see Fairfield Social Club becoming anything other than a valuable, inclusive and fun-packed part of Manchester’s going-out scene. The space is even open for bookings for weddings, private parties and supper clubs, but act quick.
