Three fearless Viking girls, one oblivious Chieftain, trolls, monsters, Viking longhouses and an alarming amount of craziness… welcome to Three Little Vikings at The Lowry, an incredible adventure for small but mighty rebels, courtesy of Bethan Woollvin, the genius behind Little Red and I Can Catch a Monster.

Life in the Viking village is not exactly idyllic, unless disappearing chickens, mysteriously falling trees and general carnage are your idea of “a nice time”. Naturally, the adults are far too busy to do anything useful, so it falls to the three smallest Vikings to solve the mystery of whatever it is lurking near the village and restore some order!

The Chieftain, in his infinite wisdom and who always knows best, refuses to listen, but our small but mighty heroines know better. With teamwork, determination and and a healthy disregard for traditional gender roles, they set out to uncover the truth and, spoiler alert, save the day. Of course as they do the saving they also end up having an amazing adventure, and taking you with them!

Packed with Woollvin’s witty ways and stunning illustrations, this is a gorgeously inclusive story about courage, collaboration, friendship and – brace yourself – daring to raise your voice when no one wants to hear it. In short, it’s the perfect manual for future troublemakers and tiny feminists-in-training.

Three Little Vikings at The Lowry is taking place on 28 September. It’s a fabulous, fun production recommended for ages 3+ and their grownups, or frankly anyone who enjoys Vikings, mystery-solving and the occasional toppling of the patriarchy.
