Australian duo Cate Hope and Lisa MacKinney combine into the unit that is Super Luminum. Calling them ‘noise music’ is the easy part: pinning down what exactly they do is a lot harder. Influenced by Rhys Chatham and Eliane Radigue, their swirl of guitars is something else, offering a patient and considerate take on textural overload. MacKinney and Hope make slow, repetitive movements, letting their layers of guitar and bass wash over in a succession of ripples. The results are both hypnotic and heavy – like fuzzy dream pop played with a droning Sunn O))) chug.
