We Invented The Weekend‘s sprawling programme of events includes something for everyone, including the green-fingered among you. The all-new Salford festival is calling home growers and allotment holders to show off your, veg, fruit and flowers in a friendly competition presented in partnership with RHS Garden Bridgewater.

Bring along your prize produce to the RHS marquee at the start of the festival (from 10am Saturday 10th September) for your chance to be a winner!

The competition is open to anyone who grows in Salford and Greater Manchester, and newcomers to this kind of thing are especially encouraged.

The eight competition categories include:

Radical roots: Roots vegetables of all shapes and sizes.

Groovy Gourds: Share your biggest and most beautiful produce from the squash and cucumber family.

Size matters: For big old pumpkins, gourds or squashes.

Leafy lovelies: Salad crops, cabbages or anything with an edible leaf.

Feeling fruity: A category to show off your juiciest produce.

Most unusual fruit or vegetable: For weird and wonderful edibles….anything goes!

Just for kids: Under 16 years olds can enter this category with anything edible they’ve grown at home or school.

Cut Flowers: If you’re growing cut flowers this year, bring your best display and show just how pretty as well as productive our green spaces can be.

Grow the rainbow: Share a selection of your produce that showcases all the colours of the rainbow.
