Manchester-based composer, bassist and producer Phil France released his debut solo album ‘The Swimmer’ in 2013. It was a thing of tenderness and nostalgia, at times evoking the softer side of Steve Reich. Finding a natural home in Manchester’s Gondwana Records (also home to Go Go Penguin and Mammal Hands), France is currently finishing up his follow-up record, Circle, which is due for imminent release. His gig at YES this October is one of the better ways to spend just over a tenner.
