One Hour Intro/ Caste on Indian Screen: Marginalising the real in the reel at HOME Manchester, Manchester, 11 September 2018, from £3 - Book now
Using film clips as examples, this talk looks at the representation of caste in Indian cinema. With reference to films that do address the caste system, this presentation looks at the issue of under-representation of Dalits (“untouchables”) on the Indian screen, mirroring the marginalisation of nearly 25% of Indians in popular culture.
Led by Sanghita Sen, Department of Film Studies at the University of St. Andrews.
Join us after this talk for the screening of Bandit Queen.
