This January, Lowry welcomes Torben Betts’ brand new comedy thriller Murder at Midnight. After the success of Murder in the Dark, Betts returns with this classic murder mystery, bringing dark humour, chilling suspense and unexpected chaos.

The action begins on New Year’s Eve in a quiet corner of Kent, in a single house, where secrets inevitably bubble to the surface and a killer lies in wait. The night, of course, spirals out of control. Navigating the night before you is Jonny (The Cyclops), a well known gangster in this imagined world, his wife, and his unpredictable entourage. Based on the title, you have probably guessed by now that each occurrence is bringing you closer to the comic peril at the fateful stroke of midnight. A shady vicar, a hallucinating mother, an inexperienced burglar in a clown costume and a sidekick with no business owning a gun, all collide over a suitcase of cash and the murder left unsolved.

Directed by Philip Franks, the production features a star cast from stage and screen. Jonny, the gangster, will be played by Jason Durr, known for his work on Heartbeat and Casualty. Shirley, his mother, will be taken on by Susie Blake, best known for her role in Coronation Street. Also starring in this production, Max Bowden from EastEnders and Katie McGlynn, also a Coronation Street star.

It just goes to show that even the best-laid plans can unravel quite spectacularly, in comedic fashion. The term wrong place, wrong time takes a new form in this thrilling production. A murder mystery at the lowry you won’t soon forget.
