Matthew Bourne has a flair for keeping his productions fresh and theatrical – so it’s hard to believe that this Nutcracker! is almost 30 years old. One of Matthew Bourne’s and New Adventures’ sweetest treats, we’re thrilled that Nutcracker! returns to The Lowry for two weeks this autumn.

A coming-of-age story for the whole family, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! starts out in a gloomy Dickensian orphanage around Christmas time. This beautiful and fantastical story is told through the dreams, and nightmares, of one particular young orphan, Clara.

One of Matthew Bourne’s and New Adventures’ sweetest treats.

Following Clara’s heart-warming journey from the darkly comic Christmas Eve at Dr Dross’ Orphanage through a magical ice-skating winter wonderland and on to the raucous and delicious Sweetieland, the production is a delectable treat from beginning to end. Packed with Bourne’s trademark wit and captivating storytelling, this is the perfect show to get all of the family ready for the festive season.
