Marius Neset at Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Manchester 2 February 2018 Tickets from £18 — Book now

One for the jazzers out there, as Norwegian saxophonist Marius Neset plays one of just two UK dates this spring at the RNCM.

Neset studied at Copenhagen’s Rhythmic Music Conservatory under Django Bates – who became his mentor, before Neset contributed to Bates’ projects StoRMChaser and Human Chain. Still only in his early 30s, Neset has seven solo albums to his name, as well as six albums with his Scandi-fusion ‘boy band’ JazzKamikaze and a duo album with jazz tubist Daniel Herskedal.

This short run of concerts will be a showcase of Neset’s latest album, Circles of Chimes, which has been described as ‘his most personal and complete record to date’. Hear it live here performed by Neset’s five-piece band – also featuring piano, drums, bass and vibraphone.

This traditional boozer, surrounded by imposing flats and university buildings, was taken over by Trof (of the Deaf Institute fame). The Sally, as the regulars call it, hosts an energetic, arty crowd – and its recently expanded outside area is another good reason to visit.
