What’s with the current trend in zombie-inspired political protests? How has the Gothic mode shaped the world of digital gaming? Are there productive links to be explored between Goth culture and anti neo-liberal capitalism? And why the recent surge in popularity around the newly emerged genre of Paranormal Romance fiction?

These are just some of the questions that this year’s Gothic Manchester Festival will seek to answer during its packed one-day line-up of panel discussions, talks and presentations delivered by an ‘egalitarian mix’ of students, academics, experts and enthusiasts. While rooted in the present day, the programme will also provide an overarching look at gothic culture as a whole, closely examining its relevance and societal function across the centuries, along with the arch of its development.

Designed to be open and accessible to all, by no means will you need to know your ankhs from your pentacles to find something of interest among the range of topics in store. In other words, there’s plenty to sink your two protruding upper canines into.
