Driven by a sense of community and a passion for bringing people together, the female arts collective Girl Gang have been organising events in Manchester since 2016. This Autumn sees a new addition to their regular line-up of social gatherings. Join Megan Griffith, the proud founder of Girl Gang Manchester, for a comprehensive overview of this grey and glorious city. Starting at the the Alan Turing Memorial, the tour, written by Joshua Martin from Free Manchester Walking Tours, takes you through the city centre combining prominent landmarks and lesser known quirkier features. With musical accompaniment and beverages to sample it’s is a great way to get to know Manchester’s personality as well as geography and architecture.

Like most Girl Gang events, there is an overwhelmingly inclusive atmosphere. Each tour starts with some friendship making games and communal sharing. The experience is as much about everyone sharing the groups knowledge of the city as it is listening to one guide. Megan brings a flavour of Girl Gangs social consciousness into the tour as she discusses the rapidly changing nature of the city centre and the wider effects this has had in the form of affordable housing and gentrification. A lot of the tour’s content refers to current issues, politics and pop culture as well as acknowledging the city’s heritage.

Girl Gang want to make the tours genuinely accessible and encourage those who have access requirements or concerns to get in touch via girlgangmanchester@gmail.com. If you’re interested in Girl Gang’s other events including Speed Mating and Feminist Pub Quizzes details can be found on their website.
