Charlie just LOVES reading and he’s on a mission to make everyone else love reading too! Coming up in the summer, families are invited on a magical literary adventure with Charlie and his family, at Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book at The Lowry. This charming musical performance is inspired by the original book, Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

Charlie has a passion for books, especially when they’re filled with mystical tales of pirates! However, his sister isn’t convinced. In fact, she hates books. She finds reading dull and much prefers watching TV! Can Charlie work his magic and show her just how wonderful reading can be?

Perhaps this will do it: a pirate engrossed in a book about Goldilocks, which, in turn, becomes a story about a knight…

Through the magic and mystery of ghosts, birds, bears, dragons, pirates and more, will Charlie’s sister change her mind and finally discover the enchanting world hidden within the pages of a book?

Families will love this special immersive and intimate experience with these two siblings, as Charlie’s favourite books and stories come to life through enchanting puppetry that pops out of books, a colourful, cartoon-like set that looks like it’s jumped from the pages, and delightful, lively songs that are just made to be hummed (or sung!) along to and maintain the incredible energy throughout the production while moving the narrative along too.

Brought to you by The Lowry and Little Angel Theatre, Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book at The Lowry promises to be a delightful, memorable outing for youngsters aged 3-8 and their families to enjoy together. It’s fun, it’s sweet and it encourages reading and play – what’s not to like!

The production is approximately 1 hour long.
