Leeds transforms into a city of words and imagination when the Literary Festival arrives in June. This year’s programme includes talks with household name authors, theatre, live poetry and movement, rap, an overnight read-a-thon and of course the eagerly awaited 2025 Quiz. One of the highlights of every annual festival, host Gary Wigglesworth separates the Slavoj Žižeks from the Yuval Noah Hararis, the Enid Blytons from the Jaquelin Wilsons, the Kafka cronies from the Sartre stans, in a quiz that has even the most committed literary enthusiasts learning about their next favourite author.

Gary Wigglesworth is the author of The Book Lover’s Quiz Book: Novel Conundrums as well as the sequel More Quizzes for Book Whizzes. For years he’s been delighting fans at the infamous Betsey Trotwood in Central London. You can be sure that this man really and truly knows his stuff when it comes to literature. He also has a well honed talent for hilarity, nuance and a whole lot of fun within his quizzes, so if you came here looking for sensible and predictable book trivia, prepare to be disappointed. As a true Yorkshireman as well, Gary is thrilled to be bringing his quiz up to Leeds – the veritable metropolis of Yorkshire.

What better (or more British) way to enjoy a passion you share, than by getting nerdy over a good beverage in the company of like minded enthusiasts. Expect clever questions, excellent company and utterly bookish brilliance. Whether you’re a quiz fanatic, a literary trivia titan, a solid book lover or you got dragged along by someone else, there’s something for everyone to take away from this year’s festival quiz.

These bookish antics will take place at Hyde Park Book Club, a bastion of cultural brilliance in East Leeds’ more student filled suburb. However, a student dive this bar is not, they regularly host excellent touring bands, cultural events and have an ever evolving and inventive kitchen.
