Paradise Works

Paradise Works is an artist-led gallery space and studios on the border of Salford and Manchester. The organisation hosts a critically engaged programme of curated exhibitions, residencies and workshops, from both studio residents and artists from further afield.
It’s a creative home to over 40 artists across the three floors of Irwell House, sitting along the banks of River Irwell. Behind the studio doors you’d find anything from sculpture, installation, textiles, painting, drawing, design and film to audio, performance, photography and curation.
Since its inception in 2017, Paradise Works has gathered a loyal community of artists and audiences and continues to build on its leading philosophy of openness. As summarised by director Jessica Bennett, “the strength of Paradise Works has always been its people. It’s not just a collection of studio holders, the entire culture of mutual support is what makes this place so powerful”.
The exhibition space was previously located on the first floor but has now moved to the ground floor to ensure accessibility and allow for a more diverse programme. It’s an interesting space – an L-shaped room with high ceilings that feels simultaneously open and intimate.
Right outside, you’ll find a lush community garden where crowds often spill out during exhibition openings for a breath of fresh air. The garden is yet another element of the open-door policy and Paradise Works’ desire to engage residents from the local neighbourhood and anybody passing by.
Paradise Works is a key contribution on Manchester’s artist-led scene, providing a platform for artistic experimentation, possibility and connection.
The gallery is usually open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but do check their website and social media pages for more information on what’s on.
