Visit Lancashire, Leighton Hall

Situated near the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay, Leighton Hall is the family seat of the Gillow family. A classic Georgian manor house with a 19th century Gothicised facade, the building sits in a wide acreage of rolling parkland. The present inhabitants happily open the house to the public, but this is no stuffy museum with roped-off areas: guests are made to feel at home as they explore the collection of art and antiques. This makes Leighton Hall unusual as a stately home venue and very much worth a visit.

Of special interest is the collection of Gillow furniture. The Gillow family are one of the most renowned names in English furniture-making, and the house is full of exquisite pieces.

Throughout the year, Leighton Hall puts on all manner of educational events and courses, from glass-blowing to agriculture to pottery. There are also great outdoor events such as classic car rallies and live theatre. And of course, a bird of prey display, with live hawking and owlish antics. Be sure to check Leighton Hall’s calendar.

The location is also ideal for those visiting either classic seaside town Morecambe Bay or the Forest of Bowland. It’s easy to incorporate Leighton Hall into your Lancashire holiday!
