Flip Vintage American Clothing

Flip Vintage American Clothing is Newcastle’s longest established vintage store, importing genuine American clothing since 1978. It’s a casual affair, where what you see really is what you get. To find it, you need only look for the red door, listen out for the music, and head in, or up, as location would have it. From street level, five top-floor windows spell out the word Flip, each with a cartoon-style red letter to brag. It’s eye-catching, and funky, and visitors en route get an immediate sense of the brand even before they step inside. It’s a vibe that’s working, for sure, as stock is renowned for shifting swiftly here, with replacements and new arrivals promised as soon as availability allows. It’s rare to find a secondhand shop with such a specialism that doesn’t show-off its own material, but, here, the goods do the talking, and the impression the store gives-off is that it is backdrop to the cherished and carefully-chosen pieces which hang neatly on the rails.

With such a specific outlook, the stock is as expected. Military field jackets, kimonos, baseball jerseys, evening dresses, trench coats and western wear fill the rails, all of which are well worth a raid if you’re looking for something in this style. It’s a selective genre, but there is scope within it, too. Jackets range in their print, size and style, as do tops, coats and dresses, and, typically, stars and stripes feature now and then, too. Either way, it’s worth a browse, and, so conveniently and centrally located, it’s easily stopped-by during a shopping spell in town. Family-ran, with the first owner working for years to source vintage, you can trust that what you’re getting here is the real deal, with well-founded products on sale for a reasonable price.
