Treat yourself to some clay based escapism this summer with an intensive weekend course in wheel thrown pottery. 7 Spot Pottery are based in Islington Mill and have been running workshops and classes for the past two years, as well as providing studio space to Manchester based ceramicists. In their wheel thrown pottery course you’ll spend two days getting to grips with the basics of working with clay at the wheel. You’ll be able to leave feeling equipped with a foolproof set of fundamental ceramic skills.

On day one you’ll learn to prepare and centre clay before experimenting with pulling walls and making cylinders, resulting in the creation of a piece. The pots and bowls made on the first day will be left to firm up overnight before being worked into further on the second day. You’ll learn how to trim your work on the wheel as well as being shown how to decorate with coloured slips. The pots will then be fired and ready for you to collect at a later date.

For further details of 7 Spot Pottery’s upcoming workshops be sure to check their website.
