Part of a triple bill of shows at The Lowry this November, Opera North presents a bold re-imagining of Monteverdi’s opera Orfeo.

Orpheus is a pioneering collaboration between Opera North and South Asian Arts-uk. It melds the music of Monteverdi’s 1607 opera with brand new music by composer and virtuoso sitar player Jasdeep Singh Degun, who weaves a new musical tapestry from western baroque and Indian classical music. Exploring the legend of Orpheus and his attempt to retrieve his deceased wife Eurydice from the underworld, this new staging relocates the Greek myth to a wedding party in a contemporary British garden. Colour us intrigued!
