Quarry Bank‘s new exhibition explores the story of cotton: its history, the drastic shift that came with the Industrial Revolution and the increase in textile production, and the future of clothes consumption.

The venue is perfectly situated to explore the topic, with the North West’s history as a leader in the booming textile industry from the late 18th – 19th century. The display takes a closer look at the use of textiles before, when production was on an individual scale, clothes lasted a long time and were often mended and passed down. After the Industrial Revolution, the speed and scale of cotton production increased so much that consumers’ habits began to change, eventually leading to the present day preference for ‘faster, easier, cheaper’ clothes.

Visit Quarry Bank to learn more about the fascinating history of cotton and what the future of the cotton industry may look like.
