When it comes to the Academy Awards, you can’t necessarily guarantee good taste or judgement, but you can guarantee outré fashion, high drama and low stakes. Whether you love the Oscars, or just love to hate them, it’s much more fun to watch the late night ceremony with friends, and, let’s face it, probably a drink too.

In Manchester, your best bet is to book a ticket to big gay film club, Make A Scene’s Oscar party at Manchester235 Casino. Host Gary James Williams promises to guide you through “the campest night in the film calendar” with cocktails, themed food, interactive games, drunken commentary, red carpet couture and performances.

The marathon session starts on the Sunday night with pre-show and red carpet coverage and lasts until they’re out of golden statues at around 4am Monday morning. Whether you’re a Humphrey Bogart or more Björk  in a swan dress, dig out those bow ties and gowns for special bonus points.

A busy image created using generative AI. The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.

Spring has sprung a wealth of great exhibitions in the North West, from intimate photographic shows to huge installations.
