Moving from screen to stage, a brilliant retelling of the cult classic film, Little Miss Sunshine heads to Liverpool Playhouse this September.

Thirteen years after its cinematic release, this much-loved comedy road film returns in a musical adaptation from a Tony-Award winners James Lapine and William Finn.

Little Miss Sunshine is sure to delight both fans of the film, and those who are just discovering the story for the first time.

We’re absolutely thrilled that the modern and uplifting Academy Award-winner has been adapted for the stage. Celebrating the quirks of family life, this new musical comedy follows the Hoover family as they navigate their bumpy journey through life.

Little Miss Sunshine is sure to delight both fans of the film, and those who are just discovering the story for the first time.

Olive has her heart set on winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. When she finds out that she has qualified for the contest, to be held at Redondo Beach in two days time, the whole family pile into their yellow camper van (which has seen better days) to try to get her there.

Travelling 800 miles from their home in Albuquerque, amusing family tensions play out amidst the rickety camper van’s mechanical failings. Will the camper van survive the long trip from New Mexico to California – and more importantly, will they?

A celebration of family and overcoming differences, bringing big characters, laughter and charm to the Liverpool stage.

Liverpool actor Mark Moraghan will take on the role of Grandpa in this European premiere production, alongside the phenomenal Lucy O’Byrne (The Voice UK finalist and West End performer), Paul Keating (Little Shop of Horrors, The Full Monty) and Gabriel Vick (Les Miserables, stage and 2012 film).

In a celebration of family and overcoming differences, Little Miss Sunshine is sure to bring big characters, laughter and charm to the Liverpool stage.
