Described as “part gig, part theatre”, Lash is an award-winning performance exploring the excitement of going out and the role of lad culture in our world today.

Winner of the 2023 Theatre Weekly Best Monologue Edinburgh Fringe, Lash heads to Waterside for one special performance this September.

Promising a wild and entertaining night out, this gripping monologue introduces us to Sonny – at the end of his working week in a call centre as he gears up to experience a Friday night on the town. Expect a booze-filled adrenaline rush – through busy streets and nightclubs – where big tunes and colourful characters collide.

Dodgy dealers, even dodgier workmates and the local hard nuts blend into a toxic mix that assaults the senses. Written following Brexit and in the aftermath of COVID-19, Lash examines what life is really like for the youth of today.

“Described as “wholly entertaining” and “an absolute powerhouse of a performance”, this pulsating piece of theatre has been written and directed by Philip Stokes, who has been hailed “ a culturally important playwright of the 21st Century” by The British Library. His critically acclaimed plays – Heroin(e) For Breakfast, Uber Hate Gang, My Filthy Hunt and Jesus, Jane, Mother & Me – have garnered five-star reviews and won several awards, including The Fringe Review Outstanding Theatre Award and the Adelaide Holden Street Theatre Award. Lash is considered a ‘companion piece’ to Stokes’ triumphant sell-out production Jesus, Jane, Mother & Me.

Fast-paced and arresting, and taking a swipe at toxic masculinity, misogyny and homophobia, Lash stars the incredibly talented Jack Stokes (winner of Theatre Weekly’s 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Best Solo Performance). Don’t miss the chance to see this tour de force in Waterside’s intimate performance space.
